Thanks to the heavy costs associated with it, homeowners often give up on landscape design, Los Angeles. Of course, they grow grass, mow the lawn regularly and create a green space that makes for outdoor seating and sometimes, a play area for kids.

Importance of Landscaping

However, landscaping is not about growing and mowing grass. It’s about including features like patios, decks, swimming pools, retaining walls etc to beautify the existing space. What’s more, every penny spent on professional landscaping is worth its mettle.

Here’s how.

People across the globe are realizing the value of growing trees, plants and bringing nature home. Landscaping brings in greenery, which is not only conducive to the environment, but also for the homeowners and their family.

It is always a pleasure to walk into a home with an appealing landscape with a stone driveway, retaining walls covered with creepers, blooming flowers and so on. So, landscaping not only adds value to the property, but also makes the home welcoming, beautiful and appealing to the inmates as well as guests.

Natural beauty at home enhances the quality of air, health, concentration etc.

Well done landscaping by professionals creates a space for entertaining friends and family. What’s more, it creates a relaxing space for homeowners too.

Proper landscaping controls soil erosion, thus, promoting soil preservation.

Landscaping goes beyond creating a green surface in the outdoor space. Professional landscaping includes hardscape elements like patios, driveways, etc, which enhance the beauty of the landscape, while maintaining greenery and natural beauty. While the patios, driveways and pathways add functionality and beauty to the landscape, the green trees and shrubs bring nature home and improve the environment.

A swimming pool in the backyard is probably one of the best additions to your dream home. It is the ideal place to relax, exercise and create memories with family and friends. However, when you are making an investment as big as this; not to forget tampering with the outdoor space, careful planning and diligence is a must.

So, research and due homework is a must before inviting the best swimming pool builders, Los Angeles.

Stages of Planning

Here’s what you need to do before breaking the ground to build a swimming pool.

Purpose behind installation: First things, first; determine the function of the pool. A pool for exercise can look remarkably different from a pool for fun time with kids. As the best designs rest on the function, determining the function of the pool stands first in the queue.

Features of the Site: Before hiring the services of experienced swimming pool builders, Los Angeles, it is necessary to understand whether your yard is suitable for the installation of a swimming pool. Sandy, expansive or rocky soil pose challenges for construction. Similarly, a high water table increases construction costs. It is therefore, important to get the yard and soil checked for compatibility to avoid nasty surprises after breaking the ground.

Pool location: Although you might like the pool in the right corner of your yard, the laws may not permit the same. So, before determining the location of the pool, it is important to consider the zoning laws in your area. There may be restrictions on the location of the pool, the direction it slopes etc. In fact, the electrical and gas lines are also considered before determining the location. In fact, in some places, the law requires fencing, which significantly affects the location of the pool. Consider these before beginning the pool construction project.

Hiring Expertise: The California Contractors State License Board states the need for a licensed swimming pool contractor for any construction costing above $500. So, before hiring a swimming pool builder, ensure that the contractor has a valid license. Moreover, check the validity of the license on the CSLB website.

Comparing Costs: Just checking the license is not enough. To hire the best pool builders, it is advisable to shop around and find the best. In fact, as pool installation in the yard is an expensive project, it is better compare the estimates from at least three short listed contractors. Not taking an estimate may take you off guard when the final bill is presented.

Tax and Insurance Expense: Apart from construction costs, your annual property tax and insurance costs escalate with the addition of a swimming pool. So, consider overall costs before installing a swimming pool.

Maintenance Costs: Swimming pools are high maintenance. The escalating maintenance costs per month might break your back bone eventually. Do not forget to include these when considering overall costs.

A swimming pool is certainly a great addition to the house. However, considering all the aforementioned points will save you from costly mistakes.

One of the most popular construction requirements is landscaping. Most of the households and commercial organizations have a lot of open spaces in the backyard. Landscaping is an amazing technique to convert those barren open spaces into something functional and beautiful. People often consider landscaping as a single activity, but actually it is a combination of various forms of activities.

Apart from increasing the aesthetic value of your property, landscaping can also significantly boost the resale value of your home. Through landscaping, you can remarkably increase the play area for children and install multiple features according to your taste and preference. It is not necessary for you to install each and every landscaping feature at once. You could add one or two features every year and gradually reshape and revamp your landscape. Today, there are plenty of contractors available which deals with landscape design in Los Angeles. You will soon learn about the various imperative steps which you should follow, in order to transfigure your landscape:

If there are uneven grounds or hills located near your residence, then you should build retaining walls. Retaining walls are very effective to hold the soil in place and prevent it from sliding.
If you are planning to install water features, then retaining walls are extremely essential. Fountains and ponds can add immense beauty to your landscape.
Covering open areas with stones, gravels, and rocks is an excellent idea if you do not have enough money to spend on lawn maintenance. Always make sure to compare quotes from multiple contractors, which should include both delivery and installation.
Now, you should focus on planting activities. For this, you need compost for enriching gravel and clay filled soil.
You can prepare rich soil in your home by compositing leaves, grass clippings, kitchen scraps, and a lot more.
If you live in a draught prone area and would like to save money in the long run, then you should plant wildflowers and native grasses.
Choose the plants which can thrive in your region and acclimatize with the local climate. If you purchase plants which cannot survive in the given condition, then you may be wasting your money.
Try to purchase smaller sized plants and give them ample amount of time to grow. Landscapes look beautiful when plants are small and even in size.

Some homeowners know exactly what to do to keep their lawn green and appealing in the warm season. Some others only end up with issues and a dry barren lawn with the rising temperatures.

Tips for Summer Care

So, here are some tips that will keep the landscape ready and appealing even in summer.

• Before the temperatures rise further, check your gas mower and string trimmer if they are working appropriately. If you have winterized the equipment, just check if they are working properly. As stale gas can create problems while circulation, it is advisable to remove the gasoline and refuel the mower. However, if it does not work after this, take it to the service center and ensure that it is ready to mow in summer.

• Inspect the trees and shrubs to make it summer ready. Check for damaged branches and overgrowth and call reputed professionals to take care of them before the warm months arrive.

• A good idea is to get the soil tested post winter. Call the professionals to test the pH level of soil. A low pH level signifies that the soil is acidic, and a high level signifies that it is alkaline. Adding lime to acidic soil balances it and adding elemental sulfur corrects alkaline soil. The soil must also be tested for the level of nutrients. For soils with low level nutrients, the right fertilizers must be added. Soil testing must be done well in time so that the spring rains help the soil to absorb everything that has been added to it and thus, benefit it throughout the warm season.

• Landscapes often consist of an outdoor patio space or deck. Homeowners like to adorn this space; especially in summers with potted flowers and plants. However, to enjoy them fully, it is important to water them regularly, add mulch to pots to help them retain moisture. Moreover, place them in the shade during the day to save them from drying up with the heat.

• To keep the yard ready for the summer season, clear away the fallen leaves and debris. For, the presence of these on the grass will block the sunlight from reaching the grass and letting them grow. Of course, you can use them for compost.

• Summers are harsh on plants. So, check the irrigation system so that watering plants with ample water should not be a problem when temperatures rise.

• Landscape design, Los Angeles is mostly incomplete without pathways and walkways. However, the harsh winters and the freeze and thaw cycles often create cracks and gaps in the concrete. To keep out water and other problems from multiplying, it is advisable to fill the gaps and repair the pathway.

With these tips, your landscape and lawn will not look lifeless and dull even when temperatures escalate.
