What to Consider Before Installing a Swimming Pool
A
swimming pool in the backyard is probably one of the best additions to
your dream home. It is the ideal place to relax, exercise and create
memories with family and friends. However, when you are making an
investment as big as this; not to forget tampering with the outdoor
space, careful planning and diligence is a must.
So, research and due homework is a must before inviting the best swimming pool builders, Los Angeles.
Stages of Planning
Here’s what you need to do before breaking the ground to build a swimming pool.
- Purpose behind installation: First things, first; determine the function of the pool. A pool for exercise can look remarkably different from a pool for fun time with kids. As the best designs rest on the function, determining the function of the pool stands first in the queue.
- Features of the Site: Before hiring the services of experienced swimming pool builders, Los Angeles, it is necessary to understand whether your yard is suitable for the installation of a swimming pool. Sandy, expansive or rocky soil pose challenges for construction. Similarly, a high water table increases construction costs. It is therefore, important to get the yard and soil checked for compatibility to avoid nasty surprises after breaking the ground.
- Pool location: Although you might like the pool in the right corner of your yard, the laws may not permit the same. So, before determining the location of the pool, it is important to consider the zoning laws in your area. There may be restrictions on the location of the pool, the direction it slopes etc. In fact, the electrical and gas lines are also considered before determining the location. In fact, in some places, the law requires fencing, which significantly affects the location of the pool. Consider these before beginning the pool construction project.
- Hiring Expertise: The California Contractors State License Board states the need for a licensed swimming pool contractor for any construction costing above $500. So, before hiring a swimming pool builder, ensure that the contractor has a valid license. Moreover, check the validity of the license on the CSLB website.
- Comparing Costs: Just checking the license is not enough. To hire the best pool builders, it is advisable to shop around and find the best. In fact, as pool installation in the yard is an expensive project, it is better compare the estimates from at least three short listed contractors. Not taking an estimate may take you off guard when the final bill is presented.
- Tax and Insurance Expense: Apart from construction costs, your annual property tax and insurance costs escalate with the addition of a swimming pool. So, consider overall costs before installing a swimming pool.
- Maintenance Costs: Swimming pools are high maintenance. The escalating maintenance costs per month might break your back bone eventually. Do not forget to include these when considering overall costs.
A
swimming pool is certainly a great addition to the house. However,
considering all the aforementioned points will save you from costly
mistakes.
