Landscapes in summer are mostly characterized by yellow grass, patches in the lawn and robbed appeal. Even the best landscape design, Los Angeles often seems dull and lifeless. Some homeowners know exactly what to do to keep their lawn green and appealing in the warm season. Some others only end up with issues and a dry barren lawn with the rising temperatures.

Tips for Summer Care

So, here are some tips that will keep the landscape ready and appealing even in summer.

•    Before the temperatures rise further, check your gas mower and string trimmer if they are working appropriately. If you have winterized the equipment, just check if they are working properly. As stale gas can create problems while circulation, it is advisable to remove the gasoline and refuel the mower. However, if it does not work after this, take it to the service center and ensure that it is ready to mow in summer.

•    Inspect the trees and shrubs to make it summer ready. Check for damaged branches and overgrowth and call reputed professionals to take care of them before the warm months arrive.

•    A good idea is to get the soil tested post winter. Call the professionals to test the pH level of soil. A low pH level signifies that the soil is acidic, and a high level signifies that it is alkaline. Adding lime to acidic soil balances it and adding elemental sulfur corrects alkaline soil. The soil must also be tested for the level of nutrients. For soils with low level nutrients, the right fertilizers must be added. Soil testing must be done well in time so that the spring rains help the soil to absorb everything that has been added to it and thus, benefit it throughout the warm season.

•    Landscapes often consist of an outdoor patio space or deck. Homeowners like to adorn this space; especially in summers with potted flowers and plants. However, to enjoy them fully, it is important to water them regularly, add mulch to pots to help them retain moisture. Moreover, place them in the shade during the day to save them from drying up with the heat.

•    To keep the yard ready for the summer season, clear away the fallen leaves and debris. For, the presence of these on the grass will block the sunlight from reaching the grass and letting them grow. Of course, you can use them for compost.

•    Summers are harsh on plants. So, check the irrigation system so that watering plants with ample water should not be a problem when temperatures rise.

•    Landscape design, Los Angeles is mostly incomplete without pathways and walkways. However, the harsh winters and the freeze and thaw cycles often create cracks and gaps in the concrete. To keep out water and other problems from multiplying, it is advisable to fill the gaps and repair the pathway.

With these tips, your landscape and lawn will not look lifeless and dull even when temperatures escalate.
